There is an ancient Zen story which describes a student as he walks through a forest and comes to an opening. As he looks up, he beholds a high, rapidly flowing river. On the other side of the river his Zen teacher catches his eye. Upon sighting the master, the student calls out. ‘How can I get over to that side of the river?’ Smiling affectionately, the teacher answers with a slight chuckle, ‘you’re already on that side of the river!’
